Does your son or daughter do well in mathematics and science classes? Is he or she interested in pursuing employment in the energy or engineering sectors? As part of Ohio House Bill 119, all high schools in Lake County and Geauga County have been invited to participate in a dual credit program by the State of Ohio Department of Education.
We are one of the recipients of a grant which provides dual credit opportunities in mathematics and science, awarded through Lakeland Community College. By the time your son/daughter graduates from Kenston High School, he/she may accumulate as many as 13 credits from Lakeland, if he/she takes and completes some or all of the following courses with at least a grade of C: Precalculus or Honors Precalculus, Applied Calculus, Physics I or Honors Physics, and/or Principles of Engineering.
We are beginning the third year of this dual credit program. Many students in Lake and Geauga Counties took advantage of this last year.
In order to earn the dual credit, new participants in the program must attend and complete the following activities during the 2008-2009 school year: (1) attend an informational meeting along with parents on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at 7:30pm at the West Geauga High School, 13401 Chillicothe Rd., Chesterland, Lecture Hall 124, (2) complete two workshops at Lakeland Community College; and (3) go on the scheduled field trip tours.
There will be multiple opportunities provided for all of these activities. Come to the first informational meeting on October 28th, and find out all about this great opportunity.
If you are unable to attend the informational meeting at West Geuaga High School on the 28th, there are three alternative meetings that you are welcome to attend:
OCTOBER 13th, 6:30 at Perry High School
OCTOBER 14th, 7:00 at Willoughby North High School
OCTOBER 20th, 7:00 at Madison High School
