The Gym

Serguei Rettig-DrufkeA lot of time and work goes into keeping our gym in good condition for the various events it houses- volleyball, wrestling, and basketball. James said, "Every night the gym has to be spot mopped and in the summer they do a special cleaning of polyurethane. It takes 8 hours to do special cleaning and 1 and a half hours to just clean."

From Home Page To keep the gym illuminated we have 24 fluorescent and 43 hanging lights. These lights require hundreds of bulbs that need to be changed on a regular basis. In addition, there are between 1,000 to 2,000 bulbs per scoreboard. In order to change the bulbs we use a machine called a scissor lift.

The floor care of the gym requires mopping. To mop the floor effectively a cleaning solution of mole detergent and water is used. To give the gym the shiny look a buffer is used to remove scratches and scuffs off of the floor. It is pretty amazing to realize how much work is put into the gym before we are able to use it.
