The boys swim team did an amazing job at the state meet, which is considered to be one of the greatest swim meets in the country. The meet started off on Friday, February 26, with the Canton McKinley High School marching band playing the national anthem. The top 24 swimmers from the entire state, make it to the state meet for each event. The prelims are on Friday night and the top 16 swimmers in each event advance to the finals. The first event for Kenston was the 200 Free Relay which consisted of Craig Piunno, Alex Kocheff, Nick Bester and Ryan Astalos and they broke their previous school record with a time of 1:31.31 and were ranked 14th going into the B final.
The next event for Kenston had Austin Dickey and Ryan Astalos in the 100 Breaststroke and Austin reset his record with a time of 1:00.18 and made it to the A final ranked 7th and Ryan finished 23rd. The 400 Free Relay with Craig, Alex, Nick and Ryan were ranked 14th going into the prelims.
The next day the Bombers headed back to the pool and the 200 Free Relay finished 14th in the state. Austin placed 7th in the state. The 400 Free Relay team broke another school record which has been standing since 2001, with a time of 3:22.04 and placed 13th overall in the state. The two relays are now 2nd Team All-Ohio and Austin is 1st team All-Ohio for the 100 breaststroke. Our swim team placed 23rd overall out of 141 teams. The five state qualifiers were honored to represent Kenston and did a great job.
