Recently, J.T. Ward ran the fastest time since Coach Ickes took over the job as the boys Cross Country head coach. While at the Tiffin Invitational recently (the second largest meet in the nation) J.T. ran an unbelievable time of 16:42. To make this task even more difficult, the conditions of the course were very poor due to weekend rains. Shortly after the race, Coach Ickes said, "J.T.’s race was impressive. It is the fastest Kenston time since Justin Baum. He is starting to believe he can be among the best in the state. The sky is the limit with his talent." Not only did Coach Ickes comment about J.T. after the race, he also commented on the whole team's performance. He said, "Most importantly I am happy with the team. Everyone is working very hard and has the right attitude. Dedication goes a long way in this sport."
Not only is J.T. one of the top runners on the course he is also one of the top students in the classroom. As a sophomore, J.T. won the Biology Academic award for having the highest grade in his class. J.T. has earned over a 3.25 G.P.A. all through high school. Lastly, J.T. hopes to be accepted into the National Honors Society. When J.T. is not running cross country or doing something for school, he raises pigs and turkeys, which he enters into the Geauga County Fair every year. J.T. hopes to continue following his ambition and run competitively in college.
