The Bomber Boys Soccer Team began their season with a hard fought 1-1 tie with the Pirates of Rocky River. The team got their first win of the season with a commanding 11-0 defeat of Ashtabula Edgewood. The Bombers then hit an unfortunate skid and lost their next three games to Aurora, Painesville Harvey, and Chagrin Falls. While the score may not have reflected it, the Bombers played hard and never gave up. Despite the losses, the Bombers kept their heads up and continued to work at practice. Just this past week the Bombers earned their second and third wins of the season with victories over Madison High School and Orange High School. The Bombers improved their overall record to a respectable 3-3-1. As junior midfielder Schuyler Zahner said, "The last two wins have been important. We're definitely moving in the right direction."
The soccer team put in hours of work over the summer. There were workouts Monday through Thursday beginning at eight in the morning. In the weeks before school began, there were mandatory practices every morning at the stadium field. Besides practice, the team attended a camp at the University of Akron for a weekend where they learned many good drills and strategies. The Bombers also played very well in the Adidas National Showcase preseason tournament.
The Bombers are led by senior captains Nick Gratto (Keeper), Jack Rolf (Mid/Forward), and Alex Tan (Defense). Last year as a junior, Nick became the starting Keeper and earned the honor of CVC 2nd Team. Last year Jack was awarded with CVC 1st Team. The Bombers look for continued leadership from their seniors to lead them to many more victories.
