Check Back in August!
Attention Girls Soccer players! Mr. Molnar, Allie Molnar's dad, will be holding a pick-up soccer league on Monday nights starting tonight, April 29th. If you are interested in playing, arrive at 7 PM armed with shinguards, a ball, and water! Also bring a light and dark shirt so we can make teams. The fun will be located on the lower fields in front of the high school and ends at 8:30. This is open to everyone, seniors and upcoming 8th graders, as well as current players. Hope to see you there!
On Wednesday, October 20, 2010 the Girls Soccer Team took the win over Valley Forge in over time. Valley Forge managed to sneak a ball past our senior goalkeeper, Kim Gallavan, in the first half. They were leading with a 1-0 lead when senior Kelly Leffler was tripped in the penalty box during the second half. The referee called for a penalty kick against Valley Forge. Briana Bartolone, junior, took the PK and drove it perfectly into the lower corner of the goal with about 10 minutes left in the game. The girls were ecstatic as they realized they'd tied the game. The Lady Bombers took on Valley Forge in overtime. In girls soccer, overtime consists of fifteen minutes of play and whoever scores first, wins the game. About eight minutes went by in overtime and everybody was feeling the tension, but our Lady Bombers got a chance and took a shot. With a beautiful assist by sophomore Grace Moran, Briana Bartolone put the ball in the back of the net and the team stormed the field in victory!
On September 28, 2010 the girl's soccer team played the Nordonia Knights. It was a very cold and rainy game for the girls. The JV team had a rough fight with the Knights. With all the sliding and tremendous hustle the girls did they unfortunately concluded the game 0-2. The Varsity had a very well played game. They controlled the ball very well up the field and before they knew it the score had changed from 0-0 to 2-0 in the matter of the first half. They concluded the game the same way they did for the first half winning by two.
So far this year Kenston girl’s Varsity soccer has a record of tying five games along with an unfortunate bitter loss against Chardon, and a very intense win against Hudson. Everyday after school the girls have strenuous practices that will benefit them for their games ahead. The girls all look up to their captain Cailin Bartolone along with their three dedicated coaches Brian Turk, Bayley Nosal, and the head coach Vito Testa who motivates the girls to play their best and work as hard as they can to bring satisfying results home with them wherever they go. This is Vito’s first year here at Kenston coaching girl’s soccer. So far he has been doing a great job.
