As the New Year quickly approaches, many Bomber Volleyball girls are starting to begin their Junior Olympic (J.O.) volleyball season. J.O., also considered "club" or "travel" volleyball, gives players from different schools in the area a chance to play together and compete against different club teams. Tournaments start in January and may last until early July.
Players have the opportunity to play on a National, American, or Regional level team. National teams have vigorous practice and tournament schedules and travel to compete against high level teams across the country. They also have the chance to attend national qualifiers to earn a bid to the USA Volleyball Junior Olympic National Championships. In previous years, nationals have been held in Miami, FL; Dallas, TX; Minneapolis, MN; and Atlanta, GA. They will take place in Reno, Nevada in 2010. Melissa Landsman said, "Last year was my first experience at nationals, and I had a great time! My team is new this year, but I am hoping to qualify again." Regional teams have a lighter schedule with more local tournaments, and American teams are somewhere in between. For girls looking to play college ball, J.O. is an excellent opportunity to be seen and recruited by college coaches. Most importantly, this off season training will prepare KBV for a very successful 2010 season!
