Helping Others Helps Yourself

Matt McLean As high school is slowly winding down and coming to an end for the seniors this year, many sophomores and juniors are starting to look for colleges to enroll in after graduation. To do so, students need to be able to write a strong resume that they can submit into any college and be proud of. Well, it is no secret that colleges love it when they receive resumes from upcoming high school graduates that have community service hours written down. The reason for this is because that it shows that you take an active part in your community and care for others. My older sister, Katie McLean, said, "If I had not done as much community service, I might not have been able to get into as good of a college as I did." It is important to remember that community service is not only helpful to get into colleges, but it is also just kind and helpful thing to do for others.

Breathe!

Lexie BaroniSeveral Kenston students volunteer their time with Breathe Respite Care. Breathe is a event on one Friday every month that is all about letting parents of kids with special needs get a little breathing time and relax while their children are left with specialized care. All children including those without special needs, newborns to 18 years old, are welcome to come to Fellowship Bible Church (where Breathe occurs monthly) and have a bunch of fun with all sorts of activities. Working for Breathe is a great way to give back and have fun, registration is easy, the website is BreatheFellowship.com.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Maygen SemallOn Wednesday February 3, National Girls and Women in Sports Day was held at Timmons Elementary School. There was a great turnout of many third through fifth grade girls along with their mothers. "Stay strong play on" was the theme for this year, inspiring everyone to keep playing and join sports. The mothers and their daughters participated in four events of their choice. Kenston High School students from sports including Track/Cross Country, Volleyball, Zumba, Softball, Golf, Dance, Kuk Sul Do, Tennis, Yoga, Lacrosse, Soccer, and Basketball helped in leading the activities of their sport. From the looks on their faces, the girls and mothers seem to be having a great time and loved participating together.

First Lt. Galeti's Life after Kenston

Hunter BegyRussell Galeti, a 1998 Kenston graduate, joined the Army National Guard. For the past few years Galeti and the rest of his squad have been training for Afghanistan. Now it’s only a matter of a few weeks before Galeti gets stationed in Afghanistan. He writes on his forum page the struggles and effectiveness of his training and overall he views it as a very rewarding process.
