The Kenston Bomberette Dance Team competed this weekend in the CCC Cupid's Cheer and Dance Challenge on February 27th, 2010. They were awarded with not only two first place trophies, but also a "Best Showmanship" award. This is the second year in a row that the team has competed in this competition, held at Chardon High School. This is one of the many regional competitions that are hosted by CCC (Champion Cheer Central), and is a prerequisite to the National Championship held on March 14th. The team, led by Coach Kathy Werner and Captains Leah Clemmer, Shannon Pesek, and Renata Rozsynai, took both a high-kick style routine and a pom style routine to the competition.
After months of hard work, the team was able to show the judges what they could do. After having both routines pushed up, due to cancellations, the girls were ready to perform! After the performances, the girls were extremely proud of themselves, and even more so after they received their scores. Their "high-kick" routine received a score of 258, one of the highest scores at the entire competition. The award, however, that was most important to the girls was the "Best Showmanship" award, awarded to the team with the best energy, crowd-appeal, and, of course, smiles.
Last year the team placed first in their "Pom" division, which then awarded them a discount at Nationals. Sophomore on the team, Jenna Abele said before the competition, "I'm really excited to compete at the Chardon competition again. It's interesting to see the other teams, and see who we might be competing against at Nationals." The entire team is extremely excited to have placed as highly as they did.
The Dance Team has several important events coming up soon: Tryout clinics the week of February 29th, Tryouts on March 6th, and then the CCC Hard Rockin' Nationals on March 13th and 14th.
